New Year has come. I’m not a fan of new year’s resolutions, but let’s try.

<Rant>

Ok, my 2 cents first. I was always surprised of the whole ‘new year’s resolutions’ craze. If you don’t like something, just start changing it slowly - you don’t need concrete date to do that, right?

What I especially don’t like is how unreasonable people are with their resolutions.

Ok, new year, let’s totally change my diet, it’s only eating!

I wasn’t doing any sports for the last 10 years, but starting from tomorrow I’m running every day till I die!

Sudden change is quick route to failure. Of course there is that 1% of people who can hold to their resolutions no matter what, but change should be painless which usually means: gradual.

BUT at the same time I acknowledge that there are always some things to improve and sometimes new year is just good opportunity to speak up and officially announce your plans.

This is what I’m doing here. I was planning to do this anyway, but this blog post is good official announcement:

  • I will continue to write new blog posts regularly
  • I will master algorithms and data structures
  • I will pick up my personal project that I abandoned a few months ago
  • I will build a new thing (I have several cool ideas that just wait)
  • I will learn (‘learn’ is not very precise but it means ‘I will target this topic for some time and really dig into it’) at least one of:
    • data science
    • artifical intelligence

I don’t lack motivation - what I lack is time. So I think my general resolution should be to find time for all of the above. I know my time management might not be the best sometimes, so it’s definitely area worth improving.

Phew, that’s all. Wish my luck and I wish you luck with your new year’s resolutions!
